Alice Pleasance has just killed a man.
Later, while suffering a heroin overdose, Alice visits a nightmare world of playing card royalty and violent tea parties. Worse, Alice discovers that her broken mind has dragged something out of her delusions and into her waking life.
Something evil.
Trapped in a psychiatric ward while dealing with her drug addiction, Alice finds an unlikely friend in Dorothy Gale, a girl who knows all about other worlds and the duality of life.
Sweet, gentle Dorothy, who carries a stuffed dog named Toto and has a few secrets of her own. Now they are on the run, escaping vengeful drug dealers, trigger happy cops, and the horrors being created inside Alice's own shattered mind.
And while Dorothy clings to the promise of love as she chases a tornado across the country, Alice clings to her sanity, because the creature sharing her mind has a growing bloodlust that will not be denied...

Alice and Dorothy PRESALE! Signed and Numbered copies are ON SALE NOW!

For those who haven't heard, my first novel Alice & Dorothy is just about ready to head to the printers, and I was wondering if you might be interested in helping me out by picking up an advance copy of the book. I am publishing it through my own Indie press, Northern Frights Publishing. The release date is June 20th, 2011.

I've been working on the book for over 2 years now, and I am excited (and terrified) that it is finally ready for release. I put the book together myself, and enlisted the artistic skills of my friend Damian Pannell to do the cover.

My printer/distributor is currently having a promotion where if I can place an order of at least 50 copies by June 15th I'll be eligible for special savings on my setup fees. It also offers me a chance to get the word out about my novel and (hopefully) give you a chance to see what I've been up to.

The book retails for $15.95, and the first fifty books sold will be signed and numbered. In the event that the book needs to be shipped anywhere, I'll be happy to do so for a flat $20 (that will include a signed, numbered book and S&H). I can take payments through Paypal or direct banking (Canada). For convenience, Paypal also has credit card options. I can also take cash or cheques through regular mail, if that's easier for you. Please make all cheques out to James Schnarr.

To sweeten the pot, with every order I'll also be shipping along a digital version of Alice & Dorothy (PDF, for eBook readers) as well as 2 eBook novellas I have currently available for sale online: Medal of Honour and The Children of the Golden Day.
All orders will be fulfilled toward the end of June and into July, so if you were looking for some summer reading it will be arriving just in time.

Now, what is Alice & Dorothy about?

Meter Maid Gives Ticket; Finds Body

LOCAL-- When parking and bylaw officer Simon Wayne first spotted a car sitting alone in the parking lot behind the old Steel Mill, his first thought was to reach for his ticket book. That all changed the moment he approached the car though, when he saw something he never imagined.
"The guy was lying on his face with his pants off," said Wayne. "He looked like he'd been dead a couple days."
Wayne took a moment to compose himself and then immediately called the cops. Homicide detectives quickly cordoned off the scene and Wayne was detained for questioning. Detective Conrad Lione was in charge of the scene.
"At this point it certainly looks to us like a trick gone bad," said Lione, noting the problems with violence and drug use often associated with prostitution as a major cause of crime in the city.
According to Police, the victim is a heavyset man in his forties with black hair and blue eyes. The cause of death was likely a single bullet wound to the head from close range. Just how close, police weren't sure.
"It certainly looks at the moment like the barrel of the gun was jammed into his face," said an officer at the scene who wished to remain anonymous. The powder burns on his cheek are consistent with that kind of contact. It kind of cooks the flesh a little because of the heat, and we're seeing that here."
An autopsy is scheduled for early next week, and investigators are confident they will have an identity of the victim and some important leads as to who might have killed this man by then. In the mean time, they are asking for the public's help in finding a thin, blond woman in her early twenties who may have been involved in the death. Several witnesses have come forward saying they saw a woman matching that description in wandering the streets nearby, and that she was in shock and covered in blood.
"At this point we'd just like to ask her what happened," Conrad Lione said. "Nobody is accusing anybody of anything."
As for bylaw officer Simon Wayne, he says he's quitting his job to find something less violent.
"What if they come looking for me or something?" Wayne asked. "They don't pay us enough to deal with these kinds of things."
